Frequently Asked Questions

What time does school start?

Students may enter the building beginning at 8:13 and must be in homeroom by 8:25.

Where do I go when I get off the bus?

Students should go directly to their lockers and then report to homeroom.
What do I do if I miss my bus?
Go to the main office. Our school secretary will assist you. 

What time does school end?

Approximately 2:51, when the afternoon announcements are finished.

What happens if I get lost while trying to find my classes?

Ask any of the teachers for help.  Be patient, you will know your way around the school by the second week.

What if I can't open my locker?

You will get to practice opening your locker during the first day of school.  Don't panic if you have trouble - ask your homeroom teacher for help.

What is my daily schedule like?

There are eight periods in the day.  You will have five academic subjects, lunch, physical education/health, and related arts/world culture every day. 

What academic subjects will I have every day?

Language Arts Literacy (Reading & Language Arts), Math, Science, and Social Studies

What are the Related Arts?

These are special subjects that you will have for one marking period each.  They include: music, art, technology education, computers, Spanish and financial literacy.   

How many teachers will I have?

Students have five different teachers for the five academic subjects.  You will have these teachers for the entire year.  You will change teachers throughout the year for physical education/health and related arts.

How long is each period?

47 minutes

How long is lunch?

30 minutes

Are there any accelerated or advanced classes in 6th grade?

There is an advanced math class in sixth grade.  Students must qualify based on multiple criteria.

Is there an Enrichment Program in 6th grade?

Yes. It is run through the Related Arts classes.

When will I get my schedule?

A copy of your schedule and team assignments will be mailed the end of August.

Does it matter which team I am on - is one team better than another?

No.  There are three teams in sixth grade: RED, WHITE, and BLUE.  The team name simply tells you which group of teachers you have.  All students take the same courses regardless of team.

Will I still be with my friends from elementary school?

Your class will include a mixture of students from:Hamilton, Kresson, Osage, and Signal Hill. You will know some of the kids in your class, but there will also be alot of new faces.  It will be a great opportunity to make new friends. 

Are bookbags allowed in middle school?

No.  You may carry your iPad and miscellaneous belongings to and from school in a bookbag, but once you get to school,you must keep your bookbag in your locker.

Do we need to change for physical education?

Yes.  The PE teachers will give you details once school begins.

Is there a dress code?

Yes.  Details are in the handbook that is available on our school website and on your personal iPad.

Who is my school counselor?

Ms. Conner is the sixth grade School Counselor for the 2025- 2026 school year.  You will have the same guidance counselor for all three years that you are in middle school, and she will be there to help you with any questions or problems.

How do I keep track of all my work?

The teachers will invite you to their google classroom online. This is like an electronic notebook and folder. All of your assignments will be posted there for your reference. Google classroom is how you will access work if you are absent and need to complete make up work.
